Wondering what’s Google doing/thinking nowadays? I got a feeling that they’re trying to kill Twitter & Facebook to start with. Really ambitious eyh? Well, they have the tools and resources to do such hence, it won’t be far-fetch.
Anyway, just a few days ago Google introduced Google Buzz. What does HR in general got to do with this Buzz? Well, it’s not for everyone folks but for those who loves networking, crowdsourcing and those recruiters who wanted to take advantage. Remember the first mover advantage? I guess you need to be on-board ASAP for you to reap the rewards folks.
In summary, this new Google featured called Buzz just act like Twitter and Facebook status updates – though Twitter can’t paste pictures! Would you be enticed on creating a new account for this new social networking contraption? No need to exert worthless effort since this feature is already embedded in your Gmail accounts, but that of course if you already have a Gmail Account.

Now, how’s the response? Actually, just awhile ago Google Buzz Surpasses 9 Million Posts and Comments. In fact, I’m obsessed with it right now – yet another tool to waste time in the office.
In summary, this new feature is built to kill a few tool/features out there offered by other service providers of which HR pros can also take advantage. It might take time for you to figure out how to exploit its features and reap the rewards thereby hitting your ROI, but mind you building a massive follower/list would be a good start using your brand.
Anyway, do check us out from time to time because I’ll be providing you a few tips on how to exploit it..
Facebook has just unveiled it’s new Home Page and guess what? It pleases not just a few HR Marketers but also hard core HR pros. According to them (Facebook), a simplified design provides easy access to your entire Facebook experience and I couldn’t agree more – you can check this page for a tutorial of this new homepage.
You might be wondering if I am a Facebook evangelist, and yes, I am! As to why? Because I’ve been reaping the rewards of using Facebooks’ cool apps and tools. In fact, with Facebook, crowdsourcing has never been difficult and complicated for me as an HR pro.
Actually, dropping news/updates and attracting targeted talent (potential) has never been really that difficult for my 155,000.00 + fan page members.
Anyway, in summary, here are a few of the enhancements:
The Top Menu
- The top menu has been simplified to make it easier to get to what’s new and important.
- Icons for requests, messages, and notifications light up when there’s something new you won’t want to miss.
- The Account Menu contains links to important settings pages. It’s also where you can go to find help or log out
- The Basics — Search, Home and Profile — are accessible at the top of every page.
The Left Menu
- The left menu has been organized to make it easier for you to find and discover content from friends, read your messages, see what your friends are up to, access applications and more.
- Core Features such as News Feed, Messages and your Friends – are at the top, making it easier to keep up with what’s new.
- Applications you’ve bookmarked have moved up the page for easy access. The new Applications and Games dashboards help you discover new and interesting information from your friends
- Friends Online provides quick links to chat with your friends, or quickly go online yourself. To edit your options, find Facebook Chat in the bottom bar.
So, what are you waiting for? Experience it now – the Facebook.
Is it or is it not? Well, I won’t be surprised if a ton of bloggers will hype this new technology that is really the “web 3.0″, but the way I see it, the way it is positioned by Google, no doubt this is the next big thing. It’s scalable, fun and pretty dynamic, what more could you ask for? I guess Google is really creating a walled-garden and a killer-app yet again to out-run the competition.
So, how’s the new technology affects social media – hmmmm, I’m sensing a few social networking platforms worried about this one? How’s the new technology affects the Human Resource profession – now more and more HR pro are worried on how to keep up with the web? Anyway, you can start with Jeff Schwartzman’s discussion on Google Wave’s possibilities with recruitment of which I couldn’t agree more. Next is, we have Kohlben Vodden of “Marketing for Recruiters” who talks about how the web is changing, and Raghav Singh who talks about this new technology at ERE.net. Still hungry for information? You can browse the web using your fav search engine.
So what’s Google Wave?
The video below can address that, but don’t forget to visit The Complete Guide to Google Wave and Google Wave it self.
Is this not the next big thing? You decide.
