Great news guys! Twitter ain’t keeping up the hype! Actually, few weeks ago Twitter – fastest growing micro-blogging platform, was valued at $1 billion by venture capitalists. They said, it has been generating sales of more than $4M a year. And now, the chart is telling us a different story. Ain’t this ironic? Would we expect these numbers to change come 2010? Now, we have a problem
Anyway, Twitter plans to start the ad business in early 2010 – so expect more hype to come, like additional few millions to expedite ROI, because for now, the current revenue comes from companies paying to use Twitter’s data, such as Microsoft, displaying Twitter updates in its search results.
So, Recruiters glued to Twitter’s potential, don’t fret!
With this move, there’s no doubt various game plans can be created just to lure passive candidates, but the questions is, how to start it? Well, just be sure to position your policies, practices and strategies for you to reap the rewards.
So what’s in it for both and everyone – users/clients? According to Jim Stoneham, vice president of communities for Yahoo!, “With this integration, we are opening the door for two of the Internet’s largest online communities to make it easier for people to stay connected.” Additionally, “this partnership extends the current Facebook integration on Yahoo! which enables Facebook users to access their stream and update their status from the Yahoo! homepage, provides “Share on Facebook” options across the Yahoo! network, and allows Facebook to access Yahoo! Contacts.”
Now, is it not a good reason to be serious with your sourcing initiatives towards Facebook? Forget Friendster because in no way they can be a serious contender anymore for next years’ Social Networking war. I know there were rumors of its $100M possible purchase, but I doubt if it could even the battle ground.
Going back, so, how can we position our Company to reap the rewards in our sourcing initiatives with social networking sites? A few things social media evangelist have in mind is that;
- You need to have a friendly social media policy, but be very careful because some policies tend to backfire, especially if your Company is not socially inclined.
- Your social media policy should be sustained by various social media best practices that encourages innovation and engagement – well, almost all social media best practices encourages engagement.
- All your social media efforts should be drawn not just in your Brand Ambassadors or Marketers head but rather in your Corporate Social Media Strategy – you can include your HR on this because if not they’ll be envious. Anyway, they’re also social animals. In fact, they’re the leading resource for gossips and (or) tittle-tattle in your shops/offices.
Lastly, am I still hyping this social media thing? Yes, but forgive me if I am because I need to since a lot of HR Pros don’t really know its impact to their respective bottom line. Don’t worry HR folks because I’ll be dropping a few costing measures on how to get ROI in your social media initiatives in my next post.
Updates: Kudos to the guys behind JCI Mandaue for accommodating us just awhile ago for the JCI orientation. As I’ve said, I’ve found the right JCI Chapter for me, so, expect me to be joining you guys in your initiatives and program in building a better community.
Is Email dead? Video below is another reason why we should be investing on social networks. And why is that? As you can see trending topics and traffics are going to social networks not to your traditional job boards and sites. If you’re to look back we’ve been asking our HR colleagues to ‘engage’ employees if you want them to be productive. If we’re to talk about recruitment and sourcing I would highly encourage HR pros to use ‘engage’ again in getting your potential audience attention to follow your BRAND, and today, the only possible and cost-effective way to engage our new breed of workforce is to engage them via social networks.
Creating a better place 101 – Episode 1 (Andoks Chicken)
Posted by: Rodelio Lagahit | Comments View CommentsCreating a better place 101 – this initiative is a personal thrust of mine with the help and support of my wife. The said initiative has gained a small acceptance already from my old colleagues of iComm International and some new colleagues. Basically the concept is simple i.e help create a better place thru little things. If your into it, feel free to drop us a message and share your thoughts on how we can bring this initiative to another level.
As for my cause, I and my wife or say together with other interested parties would make it a habit to treat kids who are not lucky enough to dine on any fast food chains. We do every pay day. Today, I’m very glad to have fulfilled that promise again together with my supportive wife.
Things was not really according to plan because we we’re so hungry at that time after attending the 6:00pm mass. It just so happened that these kids (scavengers) passed by of which without hesitation I called their attention for them to join us at Andoks MEPZ II Branch – one of Philippines fastest growing fast food chain.
So I ordered an extra rice and we shared the liempo and chopseuy with them after which my wife started the conversation. We noticed something with these kids. The two were not in hurry of eating/consuming their food. In fact, the small boy wanted it even packed. So without hesitation we asked why and they reluctantly told us that they’ll have to share it with their grandma because they’re staying with her. Then my wife asked where’s your mom of which they told us that she’s in Manila – that we didn’t bother to ask them what was she doing there. Then we asked their dad’s whereabouts only to find out their dad has long been in jail that is why they’re now staying with their grandma. But what about school? They told us that they don’t have the money to get their birth certificates for them to enroll – i know it’s necessary but I don’t know if the government has a program for these kinds of kids. Anyway, we finished up and I told the kids to went straight home because their full already, but they told us that they’ll have to see their grandma because she’s waiting for them just a few blocks away. They’re just out here because they need to make a living by scavenging and scrapping.
I just couldn’t imagine what these kids have been going through without their parents to protect them. Same with what my dad told me about his struggles of landing a job wherein he slept on hallways and scrapped vehicles for almost a year just to have a covered roof while sleeping at night. Food was scarce because they have no money. Because they wanted to survive the opted to steal rice, fried fish and mongo for them to eat. No wonder he was very strict with us before and I thank you for that Pa’.
So to close our simple “CSR” for the day we ordered additional rise and pork for her grandma. With the smile on their face and a simple “thank you ate and kuya” before living made our night. Now my wife is behind me sleeping…
Note: for those interested on joining our little cause especially those from Cebu, Philippines please feel free to drop us a message or contact us. Take note, we just do this every pay day.
