Wondering what’s Google doing/thinking nowadays? I got a feeling that they’re trying to kill Twitter & Facebook to start with. Really ambitious eyh? Well, they have the tools and resources to do such hence, it won’t be far-fetch.

Anyway, just a few days ago Google introduced Google Buzz. What does HR in general got to do with this Buzz? Well, it’s not for everyone folks but for those who loves networking, crowdsourcing and those recruiters who wanted to take advantage. Remember the first mover advantage? I guess you need to be on-board ASAP for you to reap the rewards folks.

In summary, this new Google featured called Buzz just act like Twitter and Facebook status updates – though Twitter can’t paste pictures! Would you be enticed on creating a new account for this new social networking contraption? No need to exert worthless effort since this feature is already embedded in your Gmail accounts, but that of course if you already have a Gmail Account.

Google Buzz. Go beyond status messages Share updates, photos, videos, and more. Start conversations about the things you find interesting.

Now, how’s the response? Actually, just awhile ago Google Buzz Surpasses 9 Million Posts and Comments. In fact, I’m obsessed with it right now – yet another tool to waste time in the office.

In summary, this new feature is built to kill a few tool/features out there offered by other service providers of which HR pros can also take advantage. It might take time for you to figure out how to exploit its features and reap the rewards thereby hitting your ROI, but mind you building a massive follower/list would be a good start using your brand.

Anyway, do check us out from time to time because I’ll be providing you a few tips on how to exploit it..

Facebook has just unveiled it’s new Home Page and guess what? It pleases not just a few HR Marketers but also hard core HR pros. According to them (Facebook), a simplified design provides easy access to your entire Facebook experience and I couldn’t agree more – you can check this page for a tutorial of this new homepage.

You might be wondering if I am a Facebook evangelist, and yes, I am! As to why? Because I’ve been reaping the rewards of using Facebooks’ cool apps and tools. In fact, with Facebook, crowdsourcing has never been difficult and complicated for me as an HR pro.

Actually, dropping news/updates and attracting targeted talent (potential) has never been really that difficult for my 155,000.00  + fan page members.

Anyway, in summary, here are a few of the enhancements:

The Top Menu

  • The top menu has been simplified to make it easier to get to what’s new and important.
  • Icons for requests, messages, and notifications light up when there’s something new you won’t want to miss.
  • The Account Menu contains links to important settings pages. It’s also where you can go to find help or log out
  • The Basics — Search, Home and Profile — are accessible at the top of every page.

The Left Menu

  • The left menu has been organized to make it easier for you to find and discover content from friends, read your messages, see what your friends are up to, access applications and more.
  • Core Features such as News Feed, Messages and your Friends – are at the top, making it easier to keep up with what’s new.
  • Applications you’ve bookmarked have moved up the page for easy access. The new Applications and Games dashboards help you discover new and interesting information from your friends
  • Friends Online provides quick links to chat with your friends, or quickly go online yourself. To edit your options, find Facebook Chat in the bottom bar.

What Twitter can do to your talent pool?

Are you asking the same question still? Well, don’t you worry tons of HR pros ask the same question over and over again on how to leverage/use Twitter as part of their respective “social media strategy.” I tell you, using Twitter ain’t complicated and it won’t need Einstein for you to crack it – make the most out of it.

Now, to give you a clear case on what Twitter can do to your existing talent pool let’s look at Bill Gates case.

“Eight hours ago, Microsoft founder Bill Gates joined Twitter. Five hours ago, Twitter’s Caroline Mizumoto tweeted about it. And moments ago, @BillGates broke 100,000 Twitter followers.

If you’re looking for the breakdown, that’s about 12,500 Twitter (Twitter) followers per hour, or ~208 new tweeps per minute. In reality though, Bill’s follower count escalated after Caroline’s tweet, meaning his real rate of growth is about 20,000 new followers per hour.” – Mashable

You need a proof? You can visit Twitter or check the screenshot below.

Now, are you amazed at Twitters’ potential? Feel free to exploit Twitter while it’s free but don’t abuse it because they won’t hesitate to kick your arssss out!

Just imagine if you have that kind of BRAND. Making noise on Twitter won’t be a problem right?

Politics 2.0: Social Media Campaign For NoyNoy Aquino Goes to oDesk – great find “CertifiedFreelance.com.”

Politics has really caught up with Social Media and this is what I call “Politics 2.0.”- simply pushing “Politics” existence in our social media profiles of which Facebook and Twitter are the most abused social media tools nowadays.

If I’m mistaken, this is one of the reasons why budgets allocated for traditional media (news paper and print ads) nose-dived. Well, you really can’t blame their respective Strategist since it’s pretty obvious that everyone is now already wasting their time exploring the wonders of social media. In fact, other Strategist are allocating huge investments on Google AdWords – keywords based advertising. If I’m not mistaken, a few of them are already purchasing “disgusting & (or) rude keywords” just to protect their respective candidates.

Social Media Campaign For NoyNoy Aquino Goes to oDesk

Now, what are other candidates are doing? Check this out, Noynoy Aquino Supporters went to oDesk to hire freelancers to help them push their online campaign. That’s not new, but darn, I was just amazed that they’ve resorted to asking freelances for a few cents to help their social media campaign. Where’s their large fan base? Ain’t they bragging that they have the largest fans in their Facebook fan page? Now this gets a bit ironic.

Actually, I’m interested of pushing “Gibo’” but I guess the guys behind their social media campaign ain’t interested of my social media mediocre know-how. With a total network of 10,000 Filipinos on top of 142,000.00+ Facebook fans? What could that do?

Lastly, I’m really impressed at how these guys exploit social media, from creating social-oriented focus groups and youth-friendly initiatives, all of which are just darn wonderful to hear and see. But, would this initiative last long? Would there be programs to reinforce such initiative when election is over? That I doubt…

Now, think again…

We HR pros sometimes ask, what’s the role of social media when it comes to recruitment? Are you guys just trying to hype social networking sites role in next HR revolution, hence, coming up with a “geeky” name i.e. social recruiting just to be cool? On the first question, it’s a lengthy discussion so I’ll just answer that later – hopefully I won’t ran out of words. And for the second question, brothers/sisters in the HR field, we’re living in a new world and this trend is going to stay of which we don’t know until when.

So, while it’s here exploit and position yourself.

On the other hand, you should remember that social networking sites were created because human beings are social in nature. With this in mind innovators created a space for us to collaborate and share ideas thus, social networking sites existed. And who demanded such place? Our leaders of tomorrow – “the digital natives“. And, what are our not-so-ancestor HR pros doing? Their trying to catch up that is why in a report recently, more and more 50-year old’s are joining Facebook. What does this mean? This means that people have realized it’s relevance and usefulness. Does it add value? Do your survey for you to find out!..

Anyway, I’ve gathered a few articles from a few thought leaders together with their ideas about social media and social recruiting. These are as follows:

  • Paul Jacobs - Director of Wellington-based recruitment / social media consulting business Engage, is a co-founder of the new social recruiting platform TribeHQ, and is a founder of the online Recruitment 2.0 Asia Pacifi c community. Paul recently attended the inaugural Social Recruiting Summit at the Googleplex in the Silicon Valley, USA, where he facilitated a session on the future of job boards.

  • Brent Pearson – Co-Founder of HRX. Contact: brent.pearson@hrx.com.au

Article: “Social media for recruitment

In summary, even MNC’s who’s known to react slowly have migrated and positioned themselves for the social media revolution, how much more those small and medium size businesses? Trust me, if you’re still in doubt as to its impact to your bottom line then I’ll be certain that you’ll miss the train.

Am I telling you that “what might work for others might work for you?” Yes! And you’ve answered it!

Now, if you’re talking about control, scalability and quality of talents, then social media is for you. Try to ask your job boards provider if they can provide the demographics, trends and quality of applicants? They can’t!

Now, still stuck with your job boards and prints for advertisements in attracting applicants? You decide.
