Sorry for the hiatus – not pushing my sanity to produce quality post. Is it because of my really complicated and toxic sched? My new born baby? My new Sonnet Pitbull? Add it up because its just part of everything….

As for the latest buzz around my local area, HR Philippines is planning to hold their 3rd HR Philippines convention here in Cebu and a few HR  consultants and HR pros expressed interest already to be a part of the core group to insure that the planned convention would be a success. In fact, a few days ago at the Casino Waterfront where PMAP-Cebu held their Induction of Officers for 2010, a local HR consultant approached me and asked me for a possible short meeting related to that proposed event – I think I’m the wrong person to approach to since I’m also just a member of that online HR community with no powers whatsoever vested upon me by the founder and their President. But anyway the question would be, would it not complicate PMAP Nationals plan to hold their yearly convention also here in Cebu? I guess we have to iron things out as early as now so as not to complicate things..

Well, it’s still a proposed plan but do hope it will materialize for us to promote HR Philippines here in Cebu and beyond…

This recent blow really caught me and my friend off-guard. Just a while ago, my friend (HR pro) told me that

A rip-off account from Friendster being used to ruin the HR pros online BRAND

A rip-off account from Friendster being used to ruin the HR pros online BRAND

someone assassinated her online profile – Facebook and Friendster were the ones being used to ruin her profile and online BRAND. And how the suspect did it are as follows:

  • First, the culprit searched/accessed her Friendster profile – I would assume the person was in her network for a long time already since he/she was able to access personal photos of the victim, or if not, the suspect asked to be included in her network. And so, knowing or say assuming that the suspect worked for the same company – as what the suspect placed in her/his profile,  the victim approved the friend request.
  • The suspect then created a fake profile using the victims’ profile and personal photos coming from the original public profile (that includes some personal information) – you can check the screen shot of the fake profile.
  • To ruin her personal brand, the suspect used obscene photos he/she have gathered online – to spice up the profile, the suspect dropped a few unreachable contact numbers.

As for my assumption, since the profile was created/updated first week of December 2009, I would assume that the suspect is really connected with the Company. So that everyone may know, the victim is handling Employee Relations – who facilitates termination -  so, this  might be job related.

With the experience, I don’t think this is fair for us HR because for a fact that HR is just a mere facilitator and a consultant when termination is really necessary. We also have a grievance committee to help us asses the case at hand of which members are from different levels of the Organization. HR don’t just recommend termination if we don’t have a solid evidence at hand, and this is why HR job is really complicated. Mind you, a Supervisor have already asked me for a “fist-fight” outside the Company.

So, what can we learn from this experience?

  • First, limit your social media profile to people whom you really know.
  • Scrutinize every friend request – ask questions if it’s really necessary.
  • From time to time update/evaluate every friends you have in your network.
  • Don’t forget to engage with your network – talk to them, write on their walls and take time to ask them questions (pro-active approach).

As for the case updates, we are now approaching legal authorities to teach this person a lesson. We’ll see if our case sticks because if this one sticks this will serve as a warning shot to those people who don’t know the ethics of using social media.

Lastly, if you have something in mind for us to expedite and solidify our case, please feel free to use the comment section.

Have you seen Friendster lately -  Asia’s biggest and most visited social networking site? Well, sorry for being

Friendster new logo

blunt but their recent makeover ain’t appealing to professionals. To put it simply, Friendster’s major makeover won’t entice professionals to return to them.

Yes, I know it’s for teens – not for us anymore, but business owners won’t be investing on a certain network  where majority of its members nowadays are below 18. Worst, most of them don’t even own a credit card to make purchases.

In a professional networking point of view, would you be willing to collaborate, exchange genuine ideas and do business with kids? Hell no! Not unless if you’re there to flirt, be their guest, but expect their respective moms and dads to hit you in the head once they’ll found out.

I’m not saying that you can’t contain them to be your future leaders and talents. Its just that your return on strategy and ROI won’t be on the dot. It’s soooo risky.

Just recently, I change my site’s outfit for it to fit the profile – professional looking though below par content. Enough of the spammy post, move on and be real – provide quality post and interact with the readers, these are just some of my to do’s for this newly positioned blog.

First, I tweaked the Flexx theme  by iThemes, of course inspired by another professional blogger of which I forgot his name, then I retrieved an optimization report from IBP – a seo tool. After retrieving the optimization report for almost an hour, I then change my keywords. In this way this blog can have a clear direction of which for sure Google would be interested with since it’s the basis of ranking this blog.

For now I’m still clueless as to what specific keywords to use since I wanted to nail  a few keywords for this blog, but I guess it’s quite impossible knowing the competition. Although there are only a few social-media-inspired management bloggers in the Philippines today but with their influence in the business world, no doubt they’ll always be on top.

Anyway, we’ll see in the coming weeks or months if this blogs’ direction will be the driver since it has been almost a year already that Google penalized my PR. But, with the recent improvement I think I’ll be safe in the next PR update. That’s one of the reason why I need to change a lot of things for this blog since I wanted to position my profile on every search engine rankings again. Long shot but worth pursuing since it’s a new avenue that can change our life in the way we learn and decide.

Are you a management blogger? You might want to pitch your blog to FOT for them to notice how realistic and relevant your management ideas in this socially inclined world of management. BTW, also checked my sites’ position but sad to say I got only 81. Now that’s pretty cool for a spammer-turned-serious-blogger like me.
