Have you been fired via text message?
Posted by: | CommentsHave you been fired via text message? Possible or not? It is! But that if you’re not reading your Company’s bible – Employee Handbook.
So, is it really possible? No way Jose! It’s really darn impossible. Serious? Really serious! But what if “text messages” via your smart phone is part of the due process – to inform you that a decision has been made about the alleged so and so, and it has been documented, made part of the employee handbook and its implementing guidelines. That would be sooo cool! Imagine terminating employees upfront? If this one materializes, a few HR pros would be so happy!
And to you my beloved employees, if your Sups tells you that you’re no longer allowed to work, because you’ve been considered terminated, screw them because termination needs a month. And a formal document should be given to you not a text message.
2012 was a disaster? Ain’t for a few HR pros!
Posted by: | Comments“Roland Emmerich’s 2012 provides plenty of visual thrills, but lacks a strong enough script to support its massive scope and inflated length.” – Darn! The movie rocks!
I agree but I’d rather place 2012 on top of my movie list to watch last weekend than Bella and Edward’s “New Moon“, though their earnings raised the roof but I still can’t stand watching vampires and kisses at its finest. So as not to spoil the fun, I’ll still be watching New Moon today
.
Opportunity
So, how did a few HR pros exploited the movie together with New Moon? Well, a few BPO companies reserved one (1) cinema just for their employees! Ain’t that a pretty nice initiative to encourage engagement? I wonder how much does that cost? What about the ROI? Or ROS – return on strategy? Is it worth it? Based on feedback, they were really having fun.
What about your Company? Did it exploit New Moon and 2012’s hype?
Employee Engagement Tip of the Day: Bring them out to spy on dating couples
Posted by: | CommentsI was so blessed to hire a top performing HR on top of a cohesive existing support staff. As for the icing, we asked a former employee - the one who resigned 6 months ago to settle in Singapore – if she’s interested to join the new team, new in the sense that I’m now spearheading the section – Employee Engagement (ER) – because their previous officer left.
I honestly believe that talent is useless if we can’t make the most out of it. Talent per se is nothing but a vacuum, not unless if we ask the bearer of it to get his/her hands or brains dirty and green, then that’s another thing. So, to make the most out of it we need also to place them somewhere where they can freely do the things they want – so basically it’s about being the right fit for the right job at the right time.
As time passes by, productivity takes the plunge and momentum is gone. So, in order for us to rally them again to one cause or another, we have to give them a break – not necessary a day off since they can have one if they want – a break wherein you get to sit back and relax, watch passers by, dating couples, joggers, runners, geeks on their laptops etc. with your team. And this is actually what I did to my team.
The other day I have to regroup the entire team because of the toxic schedules they’re having. One thing I’ve noticed is that we’re always confined in a four-walled room while doing the brainstorming for the next program to run. It seems that the room is not anymore helping us. As you can see, there are times our eyes need to see something for our brains to work. In fact, this is the reason why I hang out at coffee shops.
So, with the experience I have on hanging out in coffee shops, parks etc., I brought my team to a place in front of a Park for a working breakfast since it has been awhile already that we haven’t had our meeting for us to be in the same page. And to get things in the right perspective we laid down the reportorials and deliverables for us not to be hitting around the bush. And also, it must not be that heavy to prevent burnout – completely work, work and work. Though you have the clear purpose, you must not constrain someone to talk topics outside of the scope, like spying on dating couples, joggers and by standers. Ain’t that fun?
This initiative is actually another crazy experiment of mine but it worked, and we had a great time. Do let me know what crazy stuffs have you done with your team to get their energy back! I’ll be glad to exchange notes with you.
