Yes! I did,.. We have a major system problem last weekend. It has something to do with this..
Dear ___________ Users,
Yesterday, Friday the 13th proved the mishap attached to its name. While our top provider’s Provisions, Disaster & Recovery department were hooked up to an immediate hard drive replacement of our server that has been going on around few weeks, the file system of Inferno, our server, got fully corrupted because of a Journal crash. Their techs, as well as the Data Center ’s techs, tried their best to recover the data, but unfortunately, none of the data from the corrupted hard drive could be recovered. We are lucky that they had daily backups on their LAN server but the problem is, the backup of the configuration files and MySQL databases were on the same server with Raid to protect the data corruption. The file system corruption as well as the Raid failure have resulted the files to be lost. They have around 210 GB of total user files, and no database and CPanel information are available in the server right now. I have already arranged retrieval of all our backup files, but I doubt they still be of use since the database are lost.
Sorry for the inconveniences, our top provider knows the hard drive failure was out of their hand, though matter related to backup techniques was their big fault. They have learned the lessons and going to configure the whole MySQL server on a new node located under their Private LAN. Let this also be a lesson to us, having a backup of our own site is wise. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences as we can’t really do anything else other than that right now. In the meantime, if you have full backup of your site, you can restore it anytime by contacting us at this email address.
I’ve never expected anything like this to happen, it has only been months since xWebHost.info officially opened. But, the damage is done. We can’t do anything else right now. I have tried and been into many different web hosting providers before; making backup is also a responsibility and a must of the users.
With this incident, instead of flames, I am requesting everyone to send their account details as soon as possible, the one being sent to you when you signed-up/ordered the hosting package with the subject “xWebHost.info Hosting account activation notice”, so I can begin restoring our accounts and files. Again, please note that there will be no database available.

If you’re to ask me what have I done wrong, well, I won’t mention a lot because I only had a few mistakes. In fact, I won’t be blaming my provider also since he has done his job quite well. My provider have been very supportive ever since. Anyway, here’s a few tips you might consider when working closely with your hosting provider…
- Check if he has his own mechanism for back ups without relying from his provider. Some provider or most hosting provider (resellers) are very much dependent with their providers in terms of storing and saving files. Of course it’s their responsibility to do so, hence, some resellers tends to be confident when they have this in mind or when their providers promises them that they back up all the files and can provide these files to their clients when needed in an instant. So, to be safe better ask your reseller-provider if they have their own existing mechanism on saving files in advance without relying on their provider
- Check whether the files can be available for your download if in case you need it. Well as I’ve said some providers promises that they can provide you the files but time has always been a problem and availability. And for your reseller, better check also if they can access these files or if they can provide you these files on weekly and monthly basis. I know it’s one hell of a job from the providers side but with an auto-mechanism things will run smoothly. Remember hard work pays.
- Be sure to back up your own files and database daily. If you’re running your own site please make sure that you have also your own mechanism for file back-ups. Actually, this has been a problem to most bloggers and site owners out there. We tend also to be confident that our provider is there for us when we needed them.
- Re-direct your traffic to your other sites if the undesirable thing occurred. If this is neglected you’ll loose potential clients. I would encourage that once your site is down better redirect your traffic to your other sites. I know this is somehow frustrating on the side of your readers when they are redirected to a non-related site but you’ve got now choice if you want to save the traffic.
