Joost Out, Hulu In. Joost, created by the founders of Skype and Kazaa, failed to live up to the hype wherein last year they were able to reap $45 million in funding from a group led by Index Ventures and Sequoia Capital. Also investing were: Li Ka-shing, chairman of Hutchison Whampoa and Cheung Kong Holdings; Viacom; and CBS. In fact according to Joost, the money will be used to “accelerate product development, global expansion, localization and service offerings.” But according to CBS, they still have faith in Joost but they are not ruling out Hulu which is a joint Web-video venture between NBC Universal and News Corp. For some who don’t know, Hulu offers current primetime shows like The Office, Prison Break, Bionic Woman, House and Bones, and episodes from TV classics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Miami Vice, Arrested Development and more. We’ve also partnered with premier content owners like E! Entertainment, FUEL TV, SciFi Network and USA Networks to add to our growing collection of premium programming.
