spotted eagle rayFlying Stingray killed a woman. A 55-year-old woman (Judy Kay Zagorski) was on a boat with her family off Marathon Key, Florida when a spotted eagle ray jumped out of the water next to the vessel on Thursday morning. The animal reportedly struck Zagorski in the face or neck wherein the impact threw her backward and she hit her head on the vessel. According to reports, spotted eagle rays are known to occasionally jump out of the water wherein last two years another spotted eagle ray also leaped onto a boat in waters off Fort Lauderdale and pierced the heart of an 81-year-old man with its barb. Luckily, she survived unlike Steve Irwin who was killed by another type of stingray while filming underwater on the Great Barrier Reef. Steve Irwin or known as “The Crocodile Hunter” died when the ray’s barb pierced his heart. Reuters
